The Maternity Seat Belt was invented in 1989 by Steinar Kruse. He got the idea for the product, when his friend's wife was pregnant. She was sitting in her car, holding the seat belt off of her stomach because it was uncomfortable for her, but she knew the importance of wearing her seat belt. Steinar got some rope and tied the lap belt down off of her belly so she would be more comfortable.

Since then, it has been a long and strenuous process for him to develop just the right design that would provide comfort for women as well as safety for themselves, and their unborn babies.

Today, the Maternity Seat Belt is a seat belt repositioning device designed to hold the lap portion of the vehicle's existing seat belt low over the pregnant woman's upper thighs, the recommended position for the seat belt. However, when a woman is pregnant her seat belt tends to naturally rise up onto the abdomen creating a danger to the unborn baby. A lot of women question whether they should wear their seat belts because of the fear of causing harm to their babies.
